Couple plead guilty after attacking strangers in taxi

They'll be sentenced in September

A married couple who attacked strangers in a taxi at the end of their wedding anniversary will be sentenced in September.

Thirty-five-year-old Padraig Eoin O'Sullivan of Spring Valley Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He'd pleaded guilty to two assaults and obstructing police at an earlier hearing.

Prosecution advocate Rachel Braidwood said O'Suillivan and his wife had been out celebrating their anniversary on 5 July.

At the end of the night, they tried to get a taxi from Victoria Street in Douglas but a woman was already inside waiting for her boyfriend.

O'Sullivan and his wife leaned into the car to throw punches at their terrified victims as the woman begged them to stop.

The court heard O'Sullivan had drunk 12 pints of lager, but later told police he didn't think he was too drunk because he could easily drink 20.

Magistrates bailed O'Sullivan to appear again on 8 September, when both he and his wife will be sentenced.
