A mother who assaulted her neighbour after an ‘emotionally charged situation’ with her daughter has been fined £150.
Caroline Diane Kelly’s child had fled the family home on 5 July following an argument which had resulted in both mother and daughter falling down the stairs.
The 35-year-old, of Elm Avenue in Douglas, went after her but was stopped by the neighbour – in response Kelly shouted at her before grabbing at her clothing and causing reddening to her skin.
At Douglas Courthouse she admitted assaulting the woman with her advocate describing it as ‘reckless’ after ‘family disharmony' with her child.
He said Kelly had been in a ‘state of panic’ and wanted to check on her welfare after the tumble adding she was in ‘shock and a state of disarray’.
Magistrates ordered Kelly to pay £50 in compensation to her neighbour and prosecution costs of £175 – a second charge of common assault was formally dismissed.
