Conister Bank has stepped in to save a landmark which was under threat in the Island’s most historic village.
The company says it’s reached an agreement with Manx Telecom to make sure the Cregneash phone box can now stay in place as an operational payphone for at least ten years.
MT had planned to get rid of the phone box – along with a number of others – because it doesn’t make enough money, but its plans sparked public ire and led to a 500-name petition against the removals.
Conister Bank’s Managing Director Juan Kelly says he was saddened to hear of the plans, saying the phone boxes are part of the Manx cultural landscape.
