Culture shift means police officers more open about mental health

Chief constable reveals rise in absences in annual report

The chief constable believes Island police officers now feel able to openly discuss mental health issues.

The Isle of Man Constabulary saw a small rise in officer absences during the 2018-19 period, as shown in Gary Roberts' annual report.

He revealed the trauma suffered by officers in the line of duty can lead to mental ill-health.

However, Chief Constable Roberts says a change in culture means it's now easier for officers to admit they need a break:
