Damage assessment underway on Douglas Prom

Mooragh Promenade also suffers from Storm Emma

The Department of Infrastructure says work is underway to assess the damage caused to the sea fronts in Douglas and Ramsey by Storm Emma.

Massive waves whipped up by Storm Emma battered the two ports during high tide causing a trail of destruction - and even washing a squid on to the road in Douglas.

The DOI large sections of the walkway surface on Douglas Prom were lifted and destroyed.

The Department says staff will remove the remainder of the surface of Douglas Prom walkway early this week to allow the damaged section between Regent Street and the Bottleneck car park to be assessed, and plans can then be made to resurface.

The area remains closed to pedestrians while the clear-up operation takes place. Meanwhile, assessments will be made during low tide to check the extent of any damage to the sea wall and railings.

A section of railings near to the War Memorial damaged by waves has been made safe and repairs will be undertaken as soon as possible.

Engineers are also assessing damage to Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey and the timescale's needed for repairs.
