Davy Knowles becomes Island of Culture ambassador

One of the most successful recording talents to emerge from the Isle of Man in recent years Davy Knowles has been announced as the latest ambassador for next year's Isle of Culture celebrations.

The blues-rock singer songwriter who's forged a  successful career in America, joins a group of performers-cum-ambassadors, whose aim is to inspire young people in the Island to get involved in something creative.

Island of Culture 2014 spread over 12 months, will be the largest cultural celebration in the history of the Isle of Man.

Guitarist Davy Knowles joins dancer Lloyd Mayor and trumpeter Jason Evans as ambassadors for the event, organised by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

Davy says he's thrilled and honoured to become an ambassador and is looking forward to helping promote the Island's 'wonderful' culture and heritage.

But his involvement doesn't stop there. He's planning an Island of Culture project of his own that will see him return in 2014 to learn traditional Manx music and record a special performance.

The former Castle Rushen high school pupil who made it big with Back Door Slam and bigger still as a solo artist in the United States is seen as an ideal role model to inspire future generations.
