Debt service seeing 'worrying' number of business owners seeking support

Salvation Army says the type of client coming forward has changed over the last two years

A charity that provides support to those struggling with debt says there's been a worrying increase in the number of business owners relying on credit to keep their companies afloat.

The Isle of Man Salvation Army's debt advice service, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this weekend, says there's been a change in the type of client which needs its help over the last two years.

Having initially seen those on low incomes coming forward for support, the service is now seeing small business owners also reaching out.

Debbie White from the service is urging traders to think about their business model before taking on more debt:

The debt advice service is holding an afternoon tea celebration to celebrate its fifth anniversary tomorrow (Saturday) - it takes place at the Salvation Army on the Isle of Man Business Park between 1pm and 3pm.

It's open to those who've used the service as well as members of the public.
