BlueWave working with Starlink Internet Services
The Department for Enterprise has confirmed there is substance in news of a telecoms licence being granted for satellite services on the Isle of Man.
Digital Isle of Man has been working with the associated parties for some time and infrastructure is being commissioned for the installation of ground equipment.
Starlink Internet Services - a subsidiary of Elon Musk's SpaceX - has been working with local operator BlueWave Communications on the development.
It aims to take advantage of the Isle of Man's 'less crowded airwaves' and enable the deployment of satellite broadband service on-Island and further afield.
The Department for Enterprise says the step is positive and will provide more choice for local consumers and potential for further jobs within the Island's telecoms sector.
A formal statement will be released in due course.
