DHSC 'may take further action' if vehicular access at Roundhouse 'abused'

'Relevant signage' to be installed in the coming days

The Department of Health and Social Care 'may take further action' if vehicular access to a new community centre in Braddan is 'abused'.

The public is being asked not to drive on the private hospital road to access the Roundhouse, but instead use pedestrian access.

Access from today has been restricted, with government arguing measures put forward by the local authority were not ‘rigorous enough’ to provide proper safeguards or alleviate issues.

Earlier today, Braddan Commissioners said it intends to 'defy' the order, with Commissioner John Quaye saying he would remove physical barriers if they were put into place:

In a statement to Manx Radio, the DHSC says there will be no such barriers in place, but relevant signage will be installed in the coming days and the department may monitor access.

It added that vehicular access to the site is only permitted for contractors and Braddan Commissioners staff.

That statement in full: 'The DHSC are asking the public not to drive on the private hospital road to access the Roundhouse, but instead use pedestrian access.

'There will be no physical barriers in place, but relevant signage will be installed in the coming days and we may monitor access.

'Vehicular access to the site is only permitted for contractors and Braddan Commissioners staff. If access is being abused we may take further action.'
