Diagnosis changed Onchan resident's life 'overnight'

Tia Nicole Murphy is raising money to help get the care she needs for her FND

​An Onchan resident says her 'life changed overnight' when she woke up unable to walk properly.

A year ago, Tia Nicole Murphy was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, which has left her reliant on a wheelchair. 

"Until February of this year, I was a happy, healthy, outgoing, and active young woman with a passion for both healthcare and aviation. I loved helping others and was proud to work for Manx Care and as a flight attendant for Loganair at Isle of Man Airport." - Tia Nicole Murphy

FND is a complex neurological condition where the brain struggles to send and receive the correct signals to the body. 

In Tia's case, it's impacted her ability to walk and carry out everyday activities.

"The hardest part of FND is about losing my independence, going from working full time to doing anything by myself to needing help with everyday things."

On Saturday (1 August), she's organising a fundraiser at the Green Lounge in Ramsey in the hopes of rebuilding her life with the help of specialist neurologists.
