Digital prescribing 'first' at Noble's

Online service another step forward in the digitsation of records

Medication for in-patients at the Island's hospitals will in future be ordered at the press of a keyboard button.

A new electronic prescribing system is being introduced in Noble's and Ramsey Cottage hospitals, in a move designed to streamline the dispensing of pharmacy meds.

Initially, medics will use computers at the bedside, but software will allow mobile devices to be used in future.

The project is the latest stage in what;s called the health service's 'digital economy' - and follows the digitisation of patients records, test results and some community health services.

Health chiefs say digital prescribing will improve patient safety, save time and money, and allow all involved in an individual's care to see their medicine history.
