Disqualified driver caught behind wheel twice in two months

40-year-old didn't retake test after previous ban

A disqualified driver who was caught behind the wheel twice in two months has been banned from the road again.

Christopher Kevin Mccluskey, of Anagh Coar Road, was spotted by police on 15 September and 8 November last year.

The 40-year-old was disqualified from driving in 2009 for five years and had never retaken his test; further checks showed he was using an expired provisional licence.

At Douglas Courthouse Mccluskey admitted driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance on both dates.

His advocate told the court Mccluskey had spent ‘a considerable part of his life’ in prison after receiving a 15-year sentence – something he described as ‘extraordinarily long’.

Explaining that he was now on licence he added: “Mr Mccluskey has done remarkably well since his release and hasn’t been recalled.”

Magistrates were told that Mccluskey was reliant on a driver to take him to and from work but on both occasions the individual wasn’t available so he’d decided to drive.

Fining Mccluskey  £1050, and imposing five penalty points, they disqualified him from driving for 12 months and until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.

Mccluskey must also pay prosecution costs of £125.
