DoI river policy 'needs to be reviewed'

MHK says current rules are creating issues for landowner

Middle MHK Stu Peters says the Department of Infrastructure needs to look at its policy around river blockages on private land as a matter of national interest.

 

The DoI inspects 87km of designated watercourses deemed crucial for flood defence and has a guide to help landowners when a river runs through their property.

 

Mr Peters says it's having a detrimental impact on one of his constituents.

 

But minister Tim Crookall says only blockages that threaten flood defences can be worked on by his department:
