Leader Devon Watson says new schemes will be trialled over the coming year
Douglas Council says it has set a 'modest' increase to its rates for the next financial year whilst announcing investments into community facilities.
The local authority has raised its rate to 620 pence in the pound which is a 2.99 percent increase on 2025.
Leader Devon Watson confirmed that over the next few years all play areas and parks in the city will be re-developed and free car parking will be trialled.
Councillor Watson says he is 'firmly committed' to delivering essential public services for the city.
Included in the budget is an additional £240,000 for the parks to be 'overhauled' - it's also setting up a maintenance fund for these areas.
The council is also 'establishing' masterplans for Noble’s Park and other public amenities across the capital.
Councillor Watson said: "‘By providing safe, welcoming play areas, making infrastructure improvements and increasing access to affordable housing, we’re strengthening the foundation of our community.
"When we invest in our neighbourhoods, we all get out what we put into it - safer places for our children, stronger infrastructure we can rely on and homes that help families put down roots and thrive.
"‘I believe this budget reflects that ethos in a number of ways; the overall £14.1 million capital investment in public sector homes incorporating £6.3 million for new build housing developments; more than £1 million we have pledged to invest in play areas in the city over the next two years, the £2.5 million earmarked for Promenade infrastructure improvements and the £0.5m programme to upgrade public lighting."
