Crimes alleged at Cumbrian school
A Douglas man has appeared in court in relation to historical allegations at a school in Cumbria.
Derrick Cooper, 76, of Hillberry Green, faces charges along with five other men in relation to alleged abuses at the now-closed Underley Hall boarding school dating back to the 1970s.
Mr Cooper faces six counts of assault, and a further two of child cruelty.
The investigation - nicknamed Operation Tweed - was launched by Cumbria Police three years ago, after a former pupil came forward.
Underley Hall was closed following an Ofsted inspection in 2012.
The accused have been bailed, and will next appear before Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, 20 March.
