Douglas man ordered to pay compensation after assaulting paramedic

31-year-old hit emergency worker who'd been called to his aid

A Douglas man has been ordered to pay compensation after admitting drunkenly assaulting a paramedic.

Thirty-one-year-old Christopher Denis De Vos, of Mona Drive, has been sentenced at Douglas Courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage during separate incidents last October.

The court heard an ambulance had been called to De Vos’s home after he collapsed.

When the emergency services arrived his advocate said he'd reacted badly and hit the paramedic but caused only minor injuries.

Less than three weeks later he was arrested by police, after another drunken incident, and caused £185 worth of damage to a police van cell.

De Vos was ordered to spend two years under probation supervision and carry out 100 hours community service.

He was also ordered to pay compensation, to the paramedic and police, as well as £125 towards prosecution costs.

De Vos was also banned from purchasing alcohol or entering on-licensed premises for a year.
