Douglas premises searched in multi-million fraud investigation

Police are executing six search warrants around Douglas today (Wed) as part of an investigation into a £21 million VAT and money laundering fraud.

Officers say it's part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation involving UK HM Revenue and Customs, Isle of Man Constabulary, Cheshire Constabulary and the Guernsey Border Agency.

The operation is part of a co-ordinated action across all four jurisdictions with a number of simultaneous warrants being conducted in the UK and Guernsey.

One person has been arrested on the Island and a number of other arrests have been made in the UK and Guernsey.

There's a considerable amount of police activity around Hill Street in Douglas and Manor Park, Onchan and police say the public should not be alarmed to see officers from HM Revenue and Customs and the National Crime Agency who are helping with the searches which could take a considerable time.
