Douglas Council hear annual review from Leader
Douglas rates are to increase by 2.7% to 419p in the pound in the coming financial year.
The decision has been announced during a meeting of the council this morning (Wed 31st) at Douglas Town Hall.
Council Leader David Christian presented the budget and delivered his annual review.
Meanwhile, Braddan Commissioners have voted to hold the Parish rate at 200p in the pound for 2018/19.
Chairman of the Commissioners, Andrew Jessopp, says the Authority expects to benefit in the coming year from an increased rate income, due to a number of office and other developments being completed during the financial year.
However, it has accepted a loss of £29k from commercial rents from garages which the Commissioners have agreed to demolish as part of their plans to develop 30 social housing units on the Snugborough Farm site.
He said money has also been budgeted to increase the amount of work undertaken on the services transferred from central government such as road sweeping, hedge cutting and gulley emptying in order to further improve the service to residents and businesses in the Parish.
