Douglas welcomes Christmas market

European market traders are rolling into Douglas today (Wed) for the Island's first outdoor continental Christmas fair.

They'll be setting up their stalls in town centre shopping streets this evening, ready to open on Thursday morning.

The market will be based in three distinct areas: Duke Street, Regent Street and Castle Street and Marina Road.

On sale - food and drink from France, Italy, Germany, Greece and Belgium, along with crafts and gifts from nations as diverse as Poland and Finland.

Local Manx traders have stalls in each area as well.

The event's been organised by Douglas Development Partnership.

Town centre manager Gill Anderson says they've shoe-horned a lot into a limited space:

Olivier Simonin runs the traders' umbrella company, Traditional Market Ltd.

He says the Christmas market builds on the continental fair staged on Douglas prom in the summer.

The market runs from 22-29th November from 9am - 8pm, and until 9pm on both Thursdays.
