Roadworks equipment struck by motorist while over drink-drive limit
A man who almost hit an off-duty police officer in a supermarket car park was a banned driver who was over the drink-drive limit.
Ryan Kneen of Snugborough Avenue in Union Mills appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drink driving, taking his girlfriend’s car without her consent and being uninsured to do so.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing 28-year-old Kneen was spotted driving dangerously in the car park at Tesco in Lake Lane in Douglas on 24 October.
He almost ran over two pedestrians before driving to Douglas Promenade, where he hit roadworks equipment before heading home.
When arrested, he claimed his girlfriend had been driving – but police had already spoken to her as they waited for him to arrive home.
Kneen was remanded in custody to appear again for sentencing on 11 November.
