Drug addict burgled his own family's home

Stole items worth more than £2,000

A drug addict who burgled his family’s home to pay off a debt he owed to dealers has been remanded in custody.

Appearing before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse, 22-year-old Kyle Collins gave his address as the Isle of Man prison.

He admitted burgling the house in William Proctor Court in Douglas on 26 March and stealing items worth more than £2,000.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon said he’d been banned from the house because he’d stolen from family members to pay for drugs.

The court heard he smashed a back door with a hammer to get in, and his haul included a laptop computer and watch collection.

He carried out the crime after his family refused to give him cash to repay a £1,000 drug debt – and police discovered Facebook messages telling a friend he was going to burgle the house.

Collins was arrested as he tried to sell the computer and two Samsung tablets to a shop in Douglas for just £250.

He was remanded in custody for reports and will appear via live link from Jurby prison on 11 April.
