Tynwald will be asked to approve plans for their introduction on Manx roads
E-scooters could be introduced on the Isle of Man this year.
The Department of Infrastructure says it’s currently reviewing draft regulations which it intends to bring to Tynwald.
If approved the DoI believes it could help support the climate change commitments made by government, reduce the use of cars and encourage people lead an active lifestyle.
Last year the department ran a public consultation on their introduction – 70 per cent of respondents said they’d support legalising them and allowing faster electric bikes.
Minister Chris Thomas told the House of Keys he wants to take a ‘permissive’ approach to their introduction:
A two-year post implementation study is also planned if Tynwald gives the go-ahead.
