Economic and social data revealed

Men outperforming women in driving tests

The Island is throwing away less rubbish, and men are outperforming women in driving tests.

These are just some of the figures that can be found in government's latest compendium of economic and social data, released this morning.

Published every year by the Cabinet Office, Isle of Man in Numbers is filled with revelations ranging from the unessential to the unbelievable.

Government income topped £1bn for the first time last year, it's revealed.

There was a rather substantial increase in drug seizures last year, with well over a kilogram of heroin and cocaine taken off the streets.

Unsurprisingly, more people are getting work permits, with 2,000 of them issued in 2017.

Our roads are getting safer, too, with fewer than a thousand road accidents recorded.

And crime was slightly down on the year before - conversely along with an alarming 12% rise in sexual offences.

All 79 pages of the report are available to view on the Cabinet Office website, via gov.im.
