Economic strategy changes backed by Tynwald

'Hunkering down' not an option, warns Chief Minister

'Hunkering down' and riding out economic turmoil is not an option for the Isle of Man.

That was the warning from the Chief Minister as he sought approval for changes to the 'Our Island, Our Future' economic strategy.

Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson and Arbory, Castletown and Malew member Jason Moorhouse were the only members voting against the proposals.

Alfred Cannan told the court waiting was not an option:

The need to grow both the population and jobs on the Island were another key area of the strategy.

The Chief Minister said he wanted 5,000 new jobs by 2032.

It sounds a lot - but maybe not enough for Douglas North member, David Ashford:

However, when it came to the vote Arbory, Malew and Castletown MHK Jason Moorhouse said his concern was a lack of focus on current problems:

After a difficult session for the Chief Minister his economic strategy gets the green light in Tynwald.
