Chief minister tells committee there is 'an absolute need' to digitise government services
The chief minister says government's £10 million efficiency programme is there to support departments and isn't about changing services.
Alfred Cannan was joined by government's Chief Operating Officer Megan Mathias and Interim Chief Executive Officer Mark Lewin as they appeared before the Public Accounts Committee to speak about the programme.
It was introduced by the minister in September 2024 but only got underway in April last year.
By the end of March government expects to have saved £2.5 million through the scheme.
It was revealed £1 million went towards resources for a digital processing centre that enables the use of AI and further digitisation.
The panel also said government was investing in increasing digital training across the board, but questions were raised about digitisation and the general public:
