Electoral register date for Keys hopefuls

Would-be candidates have fortnight to act

If you're considering standing for a seat in the House of Keys you have just two weeks to ensure your name is on the Island's electoral register.

June 17 - a fortnight from today (June 3) - is the deadline for the next quarterly update of the register.

Potential candidates, their proposers, seconders and assentors must all be eligible to vote, by having their names on the latest version of the register.

An Island-wide effort to bring the register up to date began in January.

By April, an additional 10,000 names had been added.

Electoral Registration Officer Della Fletcher says, 'An accurate electoral reigster is essential for the integrity of the democratic process, and to be fit for purpose it has to be updated on a regular basis to take accont of people changing address'.

She said the adding of so many names since the start of the year indicated an increase in awareness of the issue.
