Electric bus trialling on Manx routes

Mercedes Demonstrator on the Island this week

Isle of Man Transport is trialling an electric bus to assess its suitability for the roads and terrain of the Island.

The vehicle is an eCitaro Demonstrator owned by Mercedes, which is used extensively around the UK by a range of transport operators.

It's on the Island for all of this week.

The trial marks the first stage of an information gathering process for Bus Vannin as it explores the future of public transport for the Island.

During its visit the bus won't be placed into general service, but various will scenarios will be simulated to enable on-board equipment to gauge the impact on battery life.

Having the vehicle on Island will also enable Isle of Man Transport's workshop team to gain an insight into alternative technology.
