Jason Moorhouse raises issue in Keys
Some feel it can be a struggle to persuade young people that putting some money away each month, to save, can be worthwhile.
Many children think cash in hand is there for a purpose - to buy things.
However, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse, who is a former economics teacher, believes there's an opportunity going to waste that could help secondary school children prosper financially.
Mr Moorhouse raised the topic in the House of Keys today, when he asked the treasury minister "what initiatives his department has considered to encourage the Island's young people to start saving".
