EU uncertain about Manx borders

Common Travel Area is Brexit conundrum

Britain and the EU 'have not reached sufficient progress' on Manx and Irish border issues, according to Europe's chief Brexit negotiator.

Michel Barnier told reporters this week that a 'unique solution' would be required to the Common Travel Area - which currently allows free travel between the Isle of Man, UK and Republic of Ireland - after 2019.

Manx government policy states 'unhindered freedom to travel' between the jurisdictions is a must.

Meanwhile, Westminster has said holding on to the Common Travel Area remains a priority, and that measures like new immigration checks were 'out of the question'.
