Exxpedition fund-raiser for Manx marine biologist

Biologist heading to Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Foraging Vintners will this evening (Fri 11th) be hosting a night to raise money for a local marine biologist's expedition to the Pacific.

Rowan Henthorn will be one of 14 women voyaging to the North Pacific this summer, as a Manx representative of an international all-women crew, who are also raising awareness of the shortage of women working in science and technology in what's been dubbed, an "exxpedition".

In an journey that will span 3,000 nautical miles, marine scientist Rowan will be tasked with collecting data from The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the densest accumulation of marine plastic any where on earth.

The evening's event in Port Erin starts at 7pm and all are welcome.

Rowan says there will be a chance to get a tattoo and an unusual auction prize could be a real highlight for many:

Admission is £10 including a glass of FV fizz and a slice of pizza and all proceeds go towards the £6,000 Rowan needs to raise as her contribution towards the expedition.
