Fee rise on way for capital's pavement cafes

The cost of running a pavement cafe in Douglas is set to triple this year.

Douglas council is considering an increase in licence fees for businesses which provide outdoor cafe seating, from £110 to £300.

There's some good news for newcomers though.

If they apply before an annual deadline, they won't have to pay a one-off registration sum of £190.

The council says the extra charge will help fund street cleaning.
