Fifth conviction of driving while disqualified for Douglas man

Fifty-two-year-old failed to provide breath test

A Douglas man has racked up his fifth conviction for driving while disqualified after defying a 13-year ban earlier this month.

Fifty-two-year-old James Jeremy Rennison of Empress Drive appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath test, driving while disqualified, and driving an untaxed and uninsured car.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court witnesses dialled 999 to report Rennison, saying he was drunk behind the wheel of his grey Nissan Micra.

Officers found him on Main Road in Baldrine just after 7pm on 15 September, and stopped him.

They noticed he was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred, but after he was taken to police headquarters he repeatedly refused to undergo a breath test.

The court heard he was given a 13-year ban last July for driving while disqualified.

He was bailed in the sum of £500 and committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery, where he’ll appear on 22 October for sentencing.
