The cost of electricity in the Island will go up by 2.2 per cent from next month, the Manx Utilities Authority has confirmed.
That's above January's annual inflation rate of 1.9% as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) , and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which fell to -0.2%.
It means an increase of about £24 a year for the average customer - around £2 extra per month.
A rise of 2.2% will also be applied to the water rate, adding £12 per year to the average bill.
The hike is slightly lower than last year’s rise of 2.5%, which followed a three-year freeze.
A 61.29 pence in the pound sewerage rate will replace the widely criticised flat rate toilet tax.
MUA chairman Alfred Cannan says he’s well aware of the financial pressures on many consumers and the authority is doing its best to keep prices down.
