Extra £1 million pledged but refugees will not be homed here
The Manx government is to donate a further £1 million to fight the humanitarian crisis in Syria.
However, no refugees will be housed locally after it was agreed the Island did not have the level of support and specialist assistance needed to help the most traumatised and vulnerable.
It’s a quick decision from the government which received a 1,000 strong petition 11 days ago asking it to consider taking in Syrian refugees.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle says he and colleagues have been deeply moved by their plight.
