53-year-old changed labels and returned worn items
A former Co-op boss has been fined £2,100 after defrauding another retail outlet.
Andrew Ian Corrie, of Lakeside Road, changed the labels on goods, and returned a number of worn items, at Marks and Spencer.
The Douglas man admitted three offences of committing fraud by false representation at the retailer on Drumgold Street in Douglas.
Douglas Courthouse heard he returned the items on 23 May 2023, and in January and February this year, amounting to a loss of £290 for the company.
During sentencing Corrie’s advocate said his client’s actions took place amidst several ‘background issues’ which caused ‘a great deal of trauma and loss’ for him.
He insisted the 53-year-old’s actions may be considered ‘as something of a cry for help’.
The court heard Corrie has since lost his job as the Co-op’s regional manager and now works in the construction industry.
His advocate said the offences were ‘entirely out of character’ for him describing them as ‘a series of blunders’.
Ordering him to pay £200 prosecution costs, and £290 in compensation to Marks and Spencer, Magistrates described it as 'a needless offence, and clearly one you deeply regret’.
