Fine for man who assaulted pregnant girlfriend

'Reckless' attack costs Douglas resident £2,000

Assaulting his pregnant girlfriend has cost a Douglas man £2,000 in costs, fines and compensation.

Twenty-six-year-old Jordan Paul Walsh, of Westminster Terrace, had at a previous court appearance admitted two assault charges.

The first offence was committed in November last year, following an argument about text messages.

It resulted in Walsh's elbow digging into his girlfriend's stomach as he tried to wrestle her phone from her while they were sat in a car.

His actions were described in court as reckless, rather than intentional.

The second incident, in February this year, once again saw the pair fighting over her mobile phone, resulting in Walsh pinning his girlfriend to the bed until he was able to get it off her.

The baby had been born by this time.

The court heard the couple were no longer together.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined Walsh £500 for each charge and ordered him to pay £500 in prosecution costs and £500 to his ex-girlfriend, totalling £2,000.
