Fine for man who stole from friend

Money withdrawn from bank account

A man’s been fined after he and another man stole £250 from a friend’s bank account.

Thirty-one-year-old Warren Phillip Molesworth of Mona Drive in Douglas admitted theft when he appeared before magistrates this week.

The court heard he’d been out drinking with two friends on 24 August last year.

When one stole another’s bank card, he was spotted on CCTV withdrawing the money from a cashpoint on Victoria Street in Douglas.

Molesworth realised his crime the next day and repaid £100 when his friend challenged him about the withdrawal.

His advocate told the court he’d been misled by another man and regretted his actions, adding his client suffered from thinking difficulties.

Magistrates fined him £200, as well as ordering him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.

They also ordered him to pay compensation of £25 to his victim.
