Toilet cleaning product mixed with another substance

Fire crews from Castletown were called out to deal with a chemical incident in the south of the Island this morning (16 June).

It's after reports of an odour in a shipping storage container that caused harm to the occupant at around 9.30am.

Two major appliances were dispatched from Castletown station, along with one incident support unit, a Hazchem Tactical Advisor, the Duty Officer and Brigade Officer.

Crews discovered a toilet cleaning product had mixed with another substance causing a chemical reaction and toxic fumes.

A team wearing breathing apparatus and gas tight suits separated the products and were then assisted by a further breathing apparatus team for decontamination.
