Fire services free handcuffed couple

Busy 24 hour period for officers

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue service say they had busy day yesterday (Tues 1st), dealing with everything from loose guttering to two people who had handcuffed themselves together!

This was in addition to providing fire cover in the pit lane for the racing at the festival of motorcycling.

Officers say a hay fire which was restricted to an area of around 80 square metres, could have spread to a much larger area had it not been for a member of the public who raised the alarm and moved some cut hay out of the path of the fire to provide a fire break.

An aerial ladder had to be used to make safe some cast iron guttering - and exercise made more complicated by the building being in a narrow street with lots of parked cars.

Crews also had to use the TT access road to attend an incident in Willaston - the first time this has happened as the fire service was unable to crew an appliance inside the course.

The same crew also helped two members of the public who had handcuffed themselves together the previous evening during a night out - but had then lost the key.
