Footballer's death a 'tragic day'

Family and friends in state of shock

A popular and respected figure with everyone who knew him.

That’s just one of the ways in which Island footballer Louis Thornton has been described.

Tributes have poured in following the death of the 26 year-old Corinthians captain and club player of the year who was found dead at a hotel room in Liverpool city centre on Saturday morning.

The circumstances remain unexplained.

He had been enjoying a weekend away with friends and was planning to watch his team Middlesbrough in action.

Messages and floral tributes have been left in the centre circle of Corinthians’ Ballafletcher ground.

Manx Radio football correspondent, Corinthians stalwart Tony Mepham, says Louis’ death has left his family and friends in a state of shock.
