Andrew Smith says residents of the parish are 'overwhelmingly' not in favour

A Garff MHK says he is against Orsted’s offshore windfarm proposals because of the impact on shipping routes, wildlife and the Island's biosphere status.

Andrew Smith was at a public meeting earlier this week discussing the plan and believes the 'overwhelming view' of residents is that it isn't right for the Island.

It comes after the Council of Ministers confirmed it has 'accepted for examination' the application from Orsted which could feature 87 turbines between six and 12 nautical miles off the east coast.

Mr Smith says the government needs to be 'very careful'.
