Gas price rise: 4,000 households eligible for support

Bills to include increase from December

Around 4,000 low-income households on the Isle of Man are eligible for financial support in the face of the recent gas price rise.

The treasury minister says the extra support won't be available until on or around 20 January, though the full impact of the increase will hit bills from December.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse put it to David Ashford in the House of Keys that people may be fearful of using gas:

There are around 20,000 Manx Gas customers, leaving 16,000 households unable to access the support packages.

Manx Gas has also announced that customers can spread bills over warmer months and the company will also offer 'comfort checks' to customers at home.

Treasury Minister David Ashford was responding to a question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse in the House of Keys this morning.
