Pair spotted doing 95mph in 50mph zone

Two German TT visitors have been fined after being caught flouting the speed limit on the Cronk y Voddy straight.

Christian Peter Lorenz and Mike Wrauchstadt were both spotted by an undercover police officer doing 95mph in the 50mph zone at around 6.45pm on Wednesday (3 June).

The pair, who don't know each other, were each travelling on the A3 towards Kirk Michael when the officer noted their speed.

The court heard that Lorenz wanted to do one full lap of the TT Course but his efforts, until that point, had been hampered by the weather and Mountain Road closures.

His advocate said he had 'allowed his excitement to get the best of him' and was 'deeply apologetic' for riding at nearly twice the limit.

The German has also expressed an interest in returning to the Island in the future, potentially as a marshal.

Fining Lorenz £350, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Magistrates said they 'appreciated his frustration' at the ongoing poor weather but told him: "Rules are rules and they are to be observed, especially during TT."

Meanwhile, Wrauchstadt's advocate told the court he had significantly reduced his speed after he spotted the police bike but admitted he had been 'going too fast'.

Fining him £300, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Magistrates told the visitor: "The one thing that is very important to this Island, especially during TT, is safety."

They were each told failure to pay the fines forthwith would result in 'a longer stay than planned this TT' - in the form of 30 days at the Isle of Man Prison.
