Glen Maye man fined over assault

Attacked man he found in his ex-girlfriend's home

A court’s heard a Glen Maye man turned violent when he walked into his ex-girlfriend’s home uninvited and found another man there.

Twenty-four-year-old Callum Kermode Bevan, of Treljah Lane, appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault, while a charge of affray was withdrawn.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Bevan was hoping to patch things up with his former partner after their five-year relationship ended.

The fisherman went to her home in Tynwald Close in St John’s on the evening of 1 July and walked in through an unlocked back door.

Inside the house, he found his ex with his cousin’s ex-boyfriend and launched an unprovoked attack, punching the man in the head several times.

Mrs Hughes said his behaviour had been appalling and he’d assaulted the man out of no other reason than jealousy.

She fined him £750, also ordering him to pay £125 towards prosecution costs and £250 compensation for the injuries he caused.
