Michael Gove MP to speak on Island

Manx audience to hear from controversial Tory

One of the central figures of last year's Brexit vote and subsequent Tory leadership contest is to speak on the Island.

MP and newspaper columnist Michael Gove will be the guest of the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club at a black tie dinner on Thursday, April 20, at the Palace Casino and Hotel.

A long-standing Eurosceptic, Gove was one of the key architects behind the 'Leave' campaign, then contested the Tory leadership following David Cameron's resignation as prime minister, despite initially saying he wouldn't.

He's also known for his controversial reforms and attempted reforms during his time as the UK's secretary of state for education.

These included wanting to scrap GCSEs and return to O-Levels, introducing targets at primary schools and wanting children to learn the likes of times tables and dates from British history by rote.
