Israel travel warning issued as nation 'at war'

UK Foreign Office advice applies for Manx residents

All travel to the Palestinian territory is currently not advised.

A spokesperson has confirmed to Manx Radio that UK Foreign Office advice applies to Isle of Man residents as British Citizens.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office across issued the advice yesterday as tensions bubbled over in the region.

Israel has declared it is 'at war' with the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, following a major attack - which caught intelligence services there by surprise.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned "the enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known".

Meanwhile, the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says people have the right to defend themselves against the "terror of settlers and occupation of troops".

Responding to the incursion, dozens of Israeli Defence Force fighter jets have struck a number of Hamas military compounds and operational command centres in Gaza.

By the end of Saturday (7 October), more than 1,500 people had been wounded in Gaza and 1,500 more in Israel, officials said.

In response, the Foreign Office has warned against any and all travel to:

  • Gaza
  • the Sheba’a Farms and Ghajjar
  • within 500m of the border with Lebanon (the ‘Blue Line’) east of Metula, including the northern edge of the town and within 500m of the border with Syria (the ‘Alpha Line’).

It has also issued a colour coded map of the region.
