Facility in Ronaldsway opened today
More assistance should be provided to transport people to the Island's vaccine hub, according to a commissioner in Ramsey.
A facility in Ronaldsway opened its doors today as the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out progresses.
Travelling to the hub is proving difficult for some elderly residents or those considered vulnerable.
Juan McGuinness believes government should run extra services to help out until other localised vaccination centres are set-up.
"I totally understand that this is just the first one [vaccination centre] and I understand that the airport makes logical sense," Mr McGuinness said.
"However, you've also got to appreciate you're asking people to travel an awful lot of distance and they're exactly the sort of people that you can't expect to be travelling those sort of distances with ease."
More vaccination hubs are expected to be set-up in other locations around the Island in due course.
Health Minister David Ashford said earlier this month a designated centre in the north of the Island should come online in February.
Mr McGuinness says, until that happens, it's imperative to offer travel support to those who need it.
He added: "It's a very easy and logical step to as well as provide a facility of a hub, you provide facilities of transport.
"I don't think the Isle of Man is short of government-run minibuses."
