But sectors like Manx Care and the police saw increases

The chair of the Public Service Commission says a report by the government of a decrease within the workforce is a positive move and gives Isle of Man residents transparency.

From April to June, the number of full-time employees decreased by 31.84 (or 0.41%) from 7,842.3 to 7,810.46.

It's the first reduction across the public service since June 2023.

However, employment in frontline jobs like Manx Care and the Constabulary increased

Rob Callister says while it's 32 from full-time employment, the number reduced from the PSC stands at 15:

During the quarter the number of both civilian and warranted officers in the Isle of Man Constabulary increased along with more frontline staff in Manx Care.

This growth in essential frontline roles has been offset by a reduction in support staff within Manx Care, showing a focused effort to prioritise direct service delivery.

Overall, while the FTE staff numbers for the public service have reduced, the targeted changes show the government’s continued investment in strengthening frontline services to meet public needs effectively.
