Political commentator says 100,000 target has been seen as opening door to uncontrolled population

A political commentator says government's handling of its population growth targets has been clumsy, naive and inept.

Alistair Ramsay believes the aim of growing the Island's population to 100,000 has led the public to think immigration is out of control.

The former government press officer fears it's led to racism and false claims about asylum seekers.

He's accused government of being 'asleep at the wheel' for 'promoting growth without being aware of the social and political consequences'.

He's calling for more transparency from government:

The Isle of Man Government has been approached for comment.
