e-llan Communications announces it will wind up its operations in December
A government-owned telecoms firm will cease trading at the end of the year due to a fall in demand for its services.
e-llan Communications Limited, which is a subsidiary of Manx Utilities, has announced it will wind up its operations on 31 December.
Its annual report, published ahead of the February sitting of Tynwald, cites its customers having a declining need for its services as the reason for the closure.
The report also shows the company made a £127,711 loss for the 2022-23 financial year, with its operating expenses exceeding a turnover of almost £670,000.
Its assets include telecoms equipment which cost more than £900,000, but factoring in depreciation it's now estimated to be worth just under £115,000.
Manx Utilities' website says e-llan provides telecommunications services to internet businesses and internet service providers on a wholesale basis, with its entry into the wholesale market securing the Island's telecommunications infrastructure.
